When a person makes a suggestion, they should be given feedback on how the suggestion is being implemented, and if the suggestion is not suitable, this should be justified and given the opportunity to specify or supplement it. When implementing a suggestion, it should be emphasized everywhere that the corresponding action results from the suggestion made, which encourages people to formulate the suggestion. The lack of feedback should be justified. Such feedback allows for the consolidation of the proposers.

According to our experiences in the Szeged TCCD and pilot, this is a key component to increase the trust towards democratic innovations amongst the city’s population. However, an important aspect connected to the feedback is the time needed to implement or decline the ideas. In most cases, the proposers want instant feedback and actions, but the municipalities need several months or years to decide idea and start to implement it. This difference can lead to losing trust in the participation process and getting discouraged.
